I am Drew Cline, a licensed and insured home inspector with 8 years in the business. Every inspection covers the roofing, exterior, structure, electrical, heating, cooling, insulation and ventilation, plumbing and interiors, and you get a detailed report with photos and plain-language explanations, typically within 24 to 48 hours.

Lexington homes: mill-era houses, brick ranches and the country

Lexington is the county seat of Davidson County and grew up around its furniture and textile industry, so the streets near downtown and the old mill areas have a lot of older houses, many of them modest frame homes that have been added onto and updated over the decades. Post-war brick ranches fill many of the neighborhoods around them.

Outside town, Davidson County opens into rural and lake properties, including homes around High Rock Lake. Larger lots, outbuildings, and homes that have been expanded over the years are all part of the work here, and every one of them gets the same full inspection.

What I watch for in Lexington

  • Crawl spaces and older foundations

Many Lexington homes sit over crawl spaces. I check for moisture, wood damage, piers and supports, and how the space is vented or sealed.

  • Additions and past renovations

Older homes often have rooms, porches or systems added at different times. I look at how the newer work ties into the original house.

  • Electrical and plumbing age

Panels, wiring and supply lines that have been changed piecemeal over the years get a careful look.

  • Roofs, gutters and drainage

Roof condition, flashing and where the water goes once it leaves the gutters, which matters on clay soil.

  • Radon

Radon is a concern across the Piedmont Triad. It is colourless and odourless, so testing is the only way to know.
